Sunday April 5th saw Salisbury’s Livestock Market transformed into a sea of chrome and bright paint when Salisbury Motorcycle Action Group held their 8th Spring Surprise Bike Show.
The warm spring weather helped to bring in motorcyclists from all over the south of England to make this the biggest show yet.
Everyone who arrives on a bike is automatically entered for the Show and show goers vote for their favourite machine in each of eight classes.
Dave Hoskins won Best Custom and the coveted Burnout Bikes sponsored Best in Show Trophy with his “Flamin’ ‘eck” chopper. Gary Payne won Best Trike for the second year; Paul Taylor won Best Classic and Andy Gleed Best Paint. Mark Battistini of Battistinis Customs in Bournemouth awarded the trophies. The standard of machinery at this relatively small show is exceptional and a credit to the skilled and dedicated builders of the South West.
There were a number of trade stands selling a range of goods and services, from a complete bike to teddy bears. The Police and Road Safety Units were also in attendance with a motorcycle simulator and demonstrations of their laser speed detection equipment.
Local band “Fenton Stack” kept the crowds entertained throughout the afternoon, no mean feat for a band that have only done a couple of gigs before.
Two delighted visitors, Dee and Paul walked away with cash prizes of £100 and £50 respectively.
If you have any interest in motorcycles, then this is the place to be on the first Sunday of April every year.
Many thanks go to the hard working members of Salisbury Motorcycle Action Group, Fenton Stack, stallholders, caterers and the motorcycling public who make this Show such a success.
